this piece of day

this piece of day
has fallen from hard hours

it has crumbled like dry leaves
     to prickly tatters

it has spun in spellbound circles
     going nowhere

it has billowed to a plume
     in smoky feathers

it has darted in swooped arcs
     of ragged zeal

it has mingled with the dirt
     on darkened pathways

it has rolled in gritty gusts
     of raving reels

     it has frolicked wildly
     to the edge of sewers

this piece of day
has fallen from hard hours

     it has paused amidst
     the mad din of confusion

     it has wafted ruffling
     through fir boughs and branches

     it has drifted softly
     lightly stirring grasses

     it has flitted free
     amongst the skips of children

it has whistled on the wind
     upon a daydream

     it has scattered lightly
     tossed on fresh sweet breezes

it has passed without a wisp
     of blight or fury

"this, too, shall pass"

  4. What a wonderful form.. lists are always wonderful, and some of the images you paint makes me think of fall as it's now. Here daylight is dusk at the moment, the rain is so heavy and dark.

  8. I like the image both visual and lexical of pieces of days.. some parts are hard..others softer but they slot together and altogether make us..and all that has passed and all what may come..

  10. The day has unfolded with many twists and turns. Your imagery takes us the readers through the ups and down of the day. These are my favorite moments in a day.

It has been allowed to progress without impediment and had not reacted negatively throughout. It was a good outing, Wendy!

  12. Each day is not just another day but a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds and feelings and accompanying emotions and is a little treasure of ours alone.

  13. Amazing Wendy. I love the various aspects of days/lives as they travel through this earth. Your poem goes directly to my heart and teaches me something wordless, deeply in my subconscious. In a way your poem is a profound prayer of gratitude.

  14. i like these little bits of imagery in the poem. together , they show us what the day is like.
i loved how your photo complement the words, the way you frame it in little squares, like panes of mirrors or tiles. very cool!
