it was spitting on
the mostly empty,
yearning, street
that brooded
in bruised shadows
and though,
leaves and litter
danced about
my feet, I shifted
from
my easy amble to
a quickened pace …
back
to the sanctuary of
aloneness
in great swishing crowds … for
mostly empty places
fill me
with primal sparks of foreboding,
that I douse with white
noise
and warm mnemonic wisps
of soothing steam,
from
cups of red hot orange
pekoe tea -
sipped with cool aplomb

I resonate with the "sanctuary of aloneness".......and love the soothing cups of tea!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI also feel sometimes that the empty spaces are foreboding. I don't know why that is really. Probably we think that if something would happen to us there would be no one around! Like Sherry, I am drawn to the cups of tea!
ReplyDeleteI love "sanctuary of aloneness" too, a cuppa & a poem with such richness of language...your lines are sheer delight Wendy...
ReplyDeleteI like the "sanctuary of aloneness" My sister says it's because I'm never alone.
ReplyDeletethe poem very touched me. I had to read and enjoy a second and third time. I feel more foreboding in crowds.
It would be boring if we all thought alike. A beautiful piece.
Thanks for visiting and for your kind comment.
There are areas of emptiness that fill me with foreboding to, there are others I might seek to fill with my own thoughts.. Or why not a cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteI love tea and a lone time to myself!
ReplyDelete"sanctuary of aloneness" resonates with me too. Sometimes all I need is a cuppa to keep me company. As much as I like company I love solitude too.
ReplyDeleteAnna :o]
I try to get lost to sanctuary of aloneness. I feel alive that way.
ReplyDeleteAdore the last stanza.. it gives such a peaceful vibe.. :D
ReplyDeleteLots of love

Even in the crowd, one can feel the sanctuary of loneliness ~ I will take a sip of that warm tea, smiles ~
ReplyDeleteAnother relatable and deep poem, Wendy.
ReplyDeleteStriking:

Yes mostly empty places can seem scary especially the one you describe. Some lovely images in this.
ReplyDeleteVery vivid.
