soft,
forgiving,
rain
slipped
from the dry, dull
still of night
and I awoke
refreshed
in sweet, fragrant
petrichor breezes
and in the yard that,
just the day before,
had gasped for water,
withered straw grasses
and gnarled tree branches
were sprinkled
in lively, wet sparkles
and there,
in the cool as silk quiet,
I came upon a perfect
droplet-raindrop-teardrop
that quivered,
lingering, delicately,
at the edge
of a glistening
sunshine yellow leaf,
sunshine yellow leaf,
and then
fell to the earth
with
. . . inspiriting beauty
notes: the prompt from Poetry Jam this week is "Rain".
love this new word I came across “inspiriting” (adj.) meaning “to instill or infuse a spirit of encouragement and life into someone”.

love that pause on the drop...i can see it holding there...just waiting to be noticed before letting go...and the slow last fall of it...
ReplyDeletei love the freshness of life after the rain...
I especially like the description of the drop. I love to awaken to find it has rained during the night.
ReplyDeleteah! quenched the thirst of earth:)
ReplyDeleteI like the refreshing description of your soft rain, so unlike the big storm we experienced last night in this part of the world. And the slow fall of that drop conveys lovely serenity.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth, Wendy? How much difference even one good rain can make to a plot of land! I also liked the power of observation you used in your poem...the look at the 'perfect droplet-raindrop-teardrop.' Inspiring beauty in both the droplet and in your poem!
ReplyDeletePetrichor breezes... yes!
ReplyDeletegorgeous merciful rain....the lines are a delight to read Wendy...

I love this image of the perfect droplet on a yellow leaf, such tenderness in the stress of living. Lovely.
ReplyDelete... just think ... that moment with that raindrop ... that one experience in time ... ahhh.
ReplyDeleteWendy, I loved your images here ... 'the cool as silk quiet' , 'the dry dull still of night' - terrific !
"petrichor" - I had not heard of that word before! What a treasure it is! Thanks for introducing us. I was also glad to be reminded of "inspiriting"!
ReplyDeleteA lovely piece and beautiful photo!
How much a summer rain can be a bliss.. the word petrichor capture almost perfectly that joy of that rain.. and how much better the sun feels after those blissful raindrops.. your word made me wish for rain..
ReplyDeleteI love your keen sense of observation and how you're able to turn the smallest of things, such as a raindrop, into a captivating poem.
ReplyDeleteThis piece falls just like the rain...delicate, refreshing, beautiful. I love it when rain does all this...the forgiving, the renewing. What a lovely, perfect moment you have captured.
ReplyDeleteGreat images, Wendy and I love that doublet of raindrops/teardrops. Our mind worked on a similar path this week!
ReplyDeleteJust a beautifully done piece Wendy--love the layout as well!
ReplyDeleteI saw that dewdrop quiver. Beautiful piece. A vision for the senses as well.
