bare feet and golden limbs
and easy smiles
gather round the outdoor table
where sunlight glints peek
amongst green knitted boughs
that swish rough spun
through needle streaks
of silver grey watercolor rivulets
on fir scent spirit breezes
that carry carefree words
into the woods
and, for a time, the path ends there:
enfolded in that virgin tapestry
where a mystical communion is shared
with each other and that place
and in the food and laughter and talk
and in the forest quiet –
the little band of people
that sit at the outdoor table
are one with the world.
note: Back from
holiday, the prompt at Poetry Jam this week is “Path”.

It seems you and your family were at a lovely place and had a great time. There is nothing like time spent with the ones we love.
ReplyDeleteWendy, I think your poem really captures the setting well. It sounds like your path ended in a beautiful place. I like your last verse & can feel the closeness of the 'little band of people.' It must have been a wonderful time! Glad to see you again.
ReplyDeleteI am totally enveloped in the beautiful tranquility here Wendy...Nature has truly laid down that path to commune with Her children..." in the forest quiet – / the little band of people / seated at the outdoor table / are one with the world."..it's really wonderful to share precious moments with the loved ones like this...nice to see you again :)
ReplyDeletesmiles...it is cool to be away from your normal responsibilities and just be with one another you know...to gather around the table and not feel rushed to get on with something else....
ReplyDeleteOne of the blessings of summer is to be together outdoors .. sitting at a table .. doing what everyone feel is best.. reading books, playing cards or even be silent together.. that's true bonding..
ReplyDeleteI think you have captured the togetherness on the path..enjoying the moment..
ReplyDeleteLovely, Wendy... especially the idea of virgin tapestry.
ReplyDeleteSuch a delightful poetic ode to summer in the woods. That first stanza said it all for me! Big smiles :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cozy feel! I want to be there!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful moment Wendy....a lovely life indeed. :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done. I love:
ReplyDeletewhere sunlight glints peek
amongst green knitted boughs
that swish rough spun
through needle streaks
of silver grey watercolor rivulets
on fir scent spirit breezes
that carry carefree words
into the woods
...a poem in itself!
Charming, all of it, from the "green knitted boughs" down to the "little band of people…at one with the world."
ReplyDeleteSeems a nice time was had by all on your holiday !
ReplyDeleteand I bet time stands still....nice
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful scene you have painted, Wendy. It is a rich and rewarding path that leads to such a dead end through one fo its forks. We may stay there and enjoy ourselves and then go back to the main path and continue on our way...
ReplyDeleteLovely scene! I like this pathway.
