HEAD DOODLING BACK
the spring beside the cottage winded to the shore,
and into the lake
where
it softly was no more.
the spring was very narrow -
far less than my young leg was long - but
magical - so many years ago - Once Upon . . . . .
the water ran as cold as ice -
perfect for a
dare:
- barefoot on an iceberg -
who'd last the longest there.
we'd chase our twig boats to the lake, laughing as we'd race.
anything that we could dream - we dreamed there in that place.
many years since I was there,
some there with me -
are gone.
but I still remember
them
the spring
and Once Upon . . . . .

I love this ... don't know what else to say...
ReplyDeleteha. i have chased a few twig boats
ReplyDeleteand smiles...taken a few of those dares
as well...once upon a time...smiles.
This is very lovely!!
ReplyDeleteThe place is gone, the friends are gone, still deep within they live. So much easier to play in fantasy than when all is served and ready.
ReplyDeleteI love this place of dream and dreaming....
ReplyDeleteOh this is beautiful, Wendy, and filled with nostalgia! Certain places do trigger memories and reflections, don't they? I know when I go to my childhood hometown and drive past certain places they take me on a journey back in time...and it seems like only yesterday......
ReplyDeleteThis is charming indeed. Am I surprised? No - I always enjoy my visits here, knowing a treat is in store for me.
ReplyDeletethis is so endearing, and called me back to my own childhood, the wilderness of the woods...how carefree, the ones who are long gone now, though i still remember them well.
ReplyDeletesuch a beautiful piece!
