"Open the pod bay doors, Hal"

HEAD DOODLING BACK

I awoke to beautiful clouds -
fluffy story book clouds -
a good start to the day.

Then, the phone rang
and a mechanical lady
asked me to do a survey.

Before coffee, mechanical lady, dream on.

There is something about an automated chat
that blasts me into a chilling
"Open the pod bay doors, Hal",
space-odyssey-head-space.

So, back I go to the window
to gaze out upon the wonderful, wonderful
blue sky and white cumulus cloud tossed foam sea -

Clouds and coffee:  these small mercies . . .

On my own space odyssey.

notes:  2001: A Space Odyssey is a classic 1968 science fiction film (I was 17 at the time) about a space voyage to Jupiter where the two astronauts, communicate with the computer HAL 9000 who has full control over their spaceship.  In one scene, astronaut Dave Bowman says:  "Open the pod bay doors, Hal".  And Hal replies:  "I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen."

  3. these small mercies

Little things can bring big inspirations. As most things are in life it is how one harness them to help bring big accomplishments. Well written Wendy!

    1. That is so true - how one harnesses those small mercies bestowed.
