mostly empty places

it was spitting on
the mostly empty,
yearning, street
that brooded
in bruised shadows

and though,
leaves and litter
danced about
my feet, I shifted from
my easy amble to
a quickened pace … back

to the sanctuary of aloneness
in great swishing crowds … for
mostly empty places fill me
with primal sparks of foreboding,
that I douse with white noise
and warm mnemonic wisps
of soothing steam, from
cups of red hot orange pekoe tea -
sipped with cool aplomb

  2. I also feel sometimes that the empty spaces are foreboding. I don't know why that is really. Probably we think that if something would happen to us there would be no one around! Like Sherry, I am drawn to the cups of tea!

  4. I like the "sanctuary of aloneness" My sister says it's because I'm never alone.

the poem very touched me. I had to read and enjoy a second and third time. I feel more foreboding in crowds.

It would be boring if we all thought alike. A beautiful piece.

Thanks for visiting and for your kind comment.

  5. There are areas of emptiness that fill me with foreboding to, there are others I might seek to fill with my own thoughts.. Or why not a cup of tea.

  7. "sanctuary of aloneness" resonates with me too. Sometimes all I need is a cuppa to keep me company. As much as I like company I love solitude too.
