There's Always Shopping

The day blew fickle fits
of stop-start blubberings of rain,
as the novel she was reading
pitched from boring to inane.

The laundry basket "hello-ed"
for a bit of company,
while the running toilet bellowed:
it could stand some TLC.

She recalled she meant to vacuum
underneath the guest room bed,
just as visions of an unhemmed skirt
twirled round swirling in her head.

The ivy needed watering.
A pot sat in the sink.
The garbage should be taken out
before it starts to stink.

But then - just when - it seemed the day

could not offer any fun.
She was struck by inspiration.
There was shopping to be done!

notes:  This photo was taken inside the general store at the Burnaby Village Museum.  It is a lovely interactive life-size recreation of a turn-of-the-century B.C. village.

TLC is an acronym for Tender Loving Care.
